2001 TRACK:
Indoor - Big 12 Champion in the 3,000 meter with a time of 8:13.61… Finished fifth in the 3,000 in 8:07.98 at the NCAA Championships… Second in the mile-run at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 4:05.69… Placed third with a season-best 4:03.80 in the mile at the Husker Quad… Posted a 2:26.34 in the 1,000 meter to win the Wildcat Invitational… Won the KSU Invitational 800 meter, running 1:53.55.

Outdoor - Won dual titles at the Big 12 Championships in the 1,500 meters (3:47.03) and the 5,000 meters (14:27.43)… Finished 11th at the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meter with a time of 14:00.77.

2000 CROSS COUNTRY: Earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and All-Big 12 honors after finishing fifth overall in a time of 25:11 at the Big 12 Championships as a junior… Earned All-Midwest Region honors after placing 15th overall, running a time of 30:56… Won his first two collegiate races at the Wichita State Gold Classic and the Woody Greeno Invitational.

SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE: A two-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field… Placed third at the 1999 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country Championships… Placed second in the 1,500 meters at the 1999 outdoor NJCAA Championships… A NJCAA All-American in the 1,500 meters and the 4x800 meter relay… Coached by James Morris.

KENYA: An 800-meter district champion and a 1,500-meter champion while competing in Kenya… Coached by Mike Kurui.

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 14, 1977 in Ainokoi, Kenya, to Joseph Kimeli and Elizeba Chelimo… The sixth of nine children… Majoring in social science.
