Run For Their Lives 5k
Little Rock, Arkansas, May 14, 2005, Special By Clint Daniel
Just a note to let you know that PTC member Shadrack Kimeli defended his title at the Run For Their Lives 5k in Little Rock successfully in a near photo finish. The top four guys turned the last corner side by side with 400 meters to go and Shadrack had the better kick. John Pankey was first masters followed by Kevin Kendrick and James Breasette. Karl Lenser got me again but only by about 20 yards. He knows that I am making up ground on him and it is just a matter of time. He won the 45-49 and I won the 40-44 which netted me $50. I didn't run well in mile two but made up some ground near the end to come close to the barrier - 17:05. Slow but effort was good. It was a great course and the weather was fine. Cate Fenster who finished second to Susie in Corinth finished second here too which was good for $250. Amy Yoder-Begley, (former Lady Razorback) broke the course record for a $1000 bonus on top of the $500 for first. Her time was 16:01.85. And my hometown girl Emily Carpenter of Carlisle, AR only 15 yrs old finished 4th in 19:47. The write-up below is from arkansasrunner.com This is a good race that everyone may want to put on their schedule for next year. They give money to top 3 overall, top 3 masters, and top 3 in each age group.
Amy
Begley breaks women's state 5K record.
Angie Heringer's 22 year old women's 5K state record was broken today at the Run For Their Lives 5K. Amy Begley, of Albuquerque, NM ran a 16:01.85 (listed officially for record-keeping as 16:02) eclipsing Heringer's mark of 16:37 set at the First South 5K in Little Rock on March 12, 1983.
Heringer retains the Arkansas resident state record.
